Lagos Attorney-General Leads Prosecution Against Alleged Kidnap Kingpin, ‘Evans’

The new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos, Moyosore Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is now leading the prosecution team against alleged kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans.

During proceedings slated for hearing of written addresses of both prosecution and defence teams in an application, the new Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Lagos urged the court to admit the evidence against the defendants.

During the proceeding before Justice Oshodi, Onigbanjo countered submissions of defence counsels of 4th and 6th defendants respectively.

The defendant’s counsel had raised issues regarding alleged extra-judicial manner statements were taken from them.
The AG in response told the trial judge that the prosecution had filed a written address dated 26th August, 2019 and added, “With respect to the fourth defendant having admitted that part of the statement was written by him and that the other part was not written by him, the AG stressed that such statement cannot be separated,” citing a Supreme Court decision as reference point and urging the court to admit the statements of the 4th and 6th defendants.

Evans and his co-defendants Uche Amadi, Okechukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Victor Chukwunonso Aduba and a woman, Ogechi Uchechukwu all facing a-two count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.

The presiding judge Justice Hakeem Oshodi reserved the ruling on the application to October 18, 2019.
